Just know that going “Ultra Luxury” requires pretty specific tastes and a lot of extra money. If "sport" and "sedan" don’t mix for you and you like space, the ES 350 makes sense. This in a car that offers lots more room in the second row than the smaller German sedans. All that totals $43,225 - still reasonable. The premium package adds things like rain-sensing windshield wipers, tilting and telescoping steering wheel, heated and ventilated front seats and blind-spot monitoring with cross traffic alert. A base ES 350 comes with 17-inch aluminum alloy wheels, LED head and taillights, a moonroof, power front seats, dual-zone climate control and a 10-speaker audio system. But the price of this Lexus could also pay for an Audi A4, a 3-Series and a C-Class, and come quite close to bagging the larger A6, 5-Series and E-Class models.īut let’s take a step back. More fundamentally, this is still a front-wheel-drive car, not the enthusiast-preferred rear-drive layout BMW and Mercedes-Benz offer in their products. But many brands, notably Hyundai and Kia, offer some form of hands-free trunk operation and heated rear seats and cost less than 50 grand. And the need to use your hands to open the trunk? Well, certainly not ultra-luxurious. More useful would be heated rear seats, absent despite the name's implications. It being winter time, I didn’t have much use for the power rear shade but do generally appreciate that it’s there that holds true for the manual rear door shades as well. “Ultra Luxury” is powerful language that instantly sets expectations quite high - like, own a private island fully staffed with butlers, chefs and masseuses on hand 24/7 kind of high.ĭon’t get me wrong, the aniline leather seats hugged my body nicely and looked good doing it, but my butt did not feel the comfort befitting the aforementioned title. That’s in addition to heated and ventilated front seats with driver memory, rain-sensing windshield wipers, ambient interior lighting and acoustic side glass that’s also available on lesser ES 350s. Choosing Ultra Luxury trim means semi-aniline leather seats, a power rear sunshade, rear door sunshades (manually operated) and a hands-free trunk opener. This seventh-generation model changes course, if only slightly. Generations one through six of the ES played the role of anti-sport sedan and did it well.
